Brewing the Perfect Cup of Tea

Updated: Jan 30, 2021

I always have the hardest time figuring out what I'm supposed to do for a new kind of tea. I always have to look up a bunch of stuff and then I'm usually too lazy to actually do anything at that point because I'm trying to get to bed or in a rush to do something else. So here’s some tips for Brewing the best cup of tea without having to be a tea connoisseur.

What Kind of Tea

The kind of tea that is very important whether it is green, white, or herbal makes a difference. The reason why it is so important is that certain types of tea have a certain temperature that they have the best flavor at. The reason why you want to care about this is that at too high of a temperature you can burn it just like cooking oil.

Tea Type temperature Time

White 160 to 190 degrees F 2 to 5 min

Green 160 to 180 degrees F 1 to 3 min

Oolong 185 to 205 degrees F 2 to 6 min

Black 200 to 212 degrees F 3 to 5 min

Herbal 200 to 212 degrees F 5 to 7 min

This is a little cheat chart of tea types and how to cook them and get the best flavor out of them. I prefer Herbal so I would heat up my water between 200 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit and steep it for 5 to 7 min.

What is Steeping?

Steeping is basically a fancy word for letting the tea leaves or fruit or whatever is in the tea blend sit so that it gets the full flavor of what the tea offers. Just like how you steep coffee in a french press before you press the filter down. This also along with all the flavor brings out the health benefits of the teas if they have any.

Serve it How You Like

I usually like to drink my herbal tea with a little honey and some oat or almond milk. You can also just drink it straight if you're strong enough, Just like coffee it is bitter and an acquired taste. You can drink it with your favorite sweetener. I prefer honey the most but if you are vegan you can use agave.

You can also serve it cold over ice and with a little lemon like some nice southern ice tea. I prefer the iced tea with lemon-aid. Baking it in a cake is another way to use your tea and increasing flavors in your life.

I hope this helps with ways that you can prepare your tea and make it more enjoyable for you and for who you decide to share within your life.
